Visual Trends of 2019 | What DepositPhotos Predicts

Updated: May 5

We’ve already established that social media is here to stay and growing at a rapid pace. We want to help you navigate and understand how your business fits within all the clutter. From audience analysis to 2019 digital expectations.

Today we’ve come up with another 2019 trend, except this time it’s a little more visual.

We are taking a closer look at Deposit Photo’s visual trends for 2019.

Visuals are among the top most important elements of social media. It’s how you can capture the attention of a viewer in a matter of about 3 seconds. Whether it’s as they’re scrolling through their newsfeed or timeline, to visual aspects of ads and videos. Your business should be considering how you’re coming across visually to your audience.

First up, the era of personalization.

The one on one approach to social media is imperative moving forward into the new year. Visual content creation plays such a huge role in standing out from others in the same space, or even other companies with outstanding visuals.

Influencers have been able to master exerting visuals that receive a high engagement rate, therefore brands look to increase UGC (User Generated Content) as well as acknowledge the collaboration and association of the brand and the influencer.

Next, Creative Provocation

What type of edginess do your visuals have? Are they brave? Bold? Unique in some way? This is where graphic design can change the game for your visual content. Photoshop and other programs alike has given a limitless opportunity for brands who really want to create something that is recognizably theirs.

Creating “thumb-stopping” visuals is always the key. Exceeding the expectations and adding an element of surprise and inspiration can give your brand the boost you need to evoke the double tap!

Creating visuals should inspire conversation and engagement.

Third, Nostalgic Flashbacks

It’s been a recent trend of brands like Adidas to mix old school and new school fashion within their visuals. Adding old clothing references, grainy filters. These give an interesting flair to imagery posted within the branding.

For B2B organizations, this would mostly be seen as inappropriate unless you can figure out a way to use it to your advantage. Though, mostly this type of Nostalgic flare would only work with B2C companies.

Deposit Photos then mentions Art history

They state “Classical art is echoed in the works of contemporary artists around the world. It's another technique that is about finding inspiration and interpreting it in a more personal way”

5th, First Global Aesthetic

Social media is bringing us closer internationally as well. Thus having similarities in coffee shops, design aesthetics, and elements of design where we gather collectively are being influenced by social media aspects around the globe.

Imagery with interior design all has a sleek, modern, minimalistic take on environments around the world. All because of social media.

They next discuss adding Layers of Interaction

Interactive elements of social content have been added to influence engagement. The article mentions how “the Museum of Contemporary Arts allows visitors to rename the whole space based on the 3 letters from the abbreviation.”

Opening imagination with interactive content and imagery allows people to remember your brand and influence them to use word of mouth to share about their experiences.

7th is 3D Design Transition

There’s a large fascination with bringing a new dimension to flat imagery. It makes me think of Spy Kids back in the day when films made 3D so interactive and life-like. Because most imagery is static and one-dimensional, adding this new perspective can shape the conversation around innovation and interest. Content that makes you stare at it for a while.

Again, graphic design is where it counts on this new trend for 2019.

Next, they mention how Minimalism Has Gotten philosophical

Implying deeper meaning is the topic here. This phenomenon has grown so quickly we believe because of the humans natural desire to want more. From the internet, we constantly are searching to understand parts of our life that seem so much deeper than they are realistic.

Images that make you stop and think about the past or the future can open the door to using images to relay a message instead of using messages to relay a message. Trying new compositions and that aren’t distracting the viewer from the message of the photo is how you can accomplish this.

Finally New Wave of Environmental Awareness

Now more than ever, companies are being very attentive to environmental issues. The article states that “politicians around the world, making it a place of investment, and we're seeing more visuals that reveal the true state of the world we live in. These images take center stage in news feeds because it's time we all decide to take a stance on global concerns. Studies are starting to show that consumers would rather get behind brands based on the causes they support which is something to consider for every business.”
